The BBC is a unique institution, owned by the British people and independent of political and commercial interests. The BBC's purpose - largely unchanged in 80 years - is to enrich the life of every person in the UK with programmes that inform, educate and entertain. BBCi Nature is an excellent resource for anyone interested in wildlife and nature conservation.
The British Naturalists' Association, the national body for naturalists, is one of the country's oldest Natural History organisations, founded in 1905. Wild About Britain aims to change the face of British wildlife, by raising awareness and promoting our natural heritage, the environment and the great outdoors. They aim to make wildlife and the natural environment an attractive part of every day life and to inspire children and the younger generations to learn more about the natural world, gain an interest in the subject as a popular past-time and actively pursue careers working in the environment as a desirable ambition towards a productive adulthood.
The Wild Flower Society is the only national society created specifically for amateur botanists and wild flower lovers in the UK. They are a friendly group who like to meet up throughout the summer months to see and photograph British wild plants in their natural habitats. The Society has been running for over a century and proudly boasts a number of very eminent botanists and academics amongst our ranks with at least fourteen members having plants named after them!
